Tiny Sweater Ornaments
These
little sweaters are knit from the neck down in the round, then
each sleeve is done on the round.
Yarn Required: About 10m of yarn, any weight.
Drops Alpaca and Sisu are shown,
made with 2.5mm needles.
Materials required: needle size suited for yarn used, double pointed; two small stitch holders or spare
pieces of yarn in contrasting colour.
Neck and body: Cast on 12 sts and divide sts onto 4
dbl pt needles as so – 2,4,2,4 sts. Knit in the round
for 3 rows, or longer if you want more of a turtleneck. Then begin inc for body by knitting into the front and back of the
first and last sts on each needle, for a total of 8 sts. In between each row, knit without dec.
It should go as follows after finishing the neck with 12 sts:
Next row: inc 8 sts = 20 sts
Next row:
knit without dec.
Next row: inc 8 sts = 28 sts
Next row:
knit without dec.
Next row: inc 8 sts = 36 sts
Next row:
knit without dec.
Next row: inc 8 sts = 44 sts
Next row:
knit without dec.
Place the
stitches from the two needles with 10 sts
on them on holders. They will be for the sleeves.
Join the
two 12-stitch sides together to form the body (start stripes here if desired) and
knit in the round for a total of 10 rows. Then k1 p1 for
bottom ribbing for 3 rows. Cast off.
Sleeves: Pick up the 10 sts
on one side with 3 dbl pt needles as so – 4,3,3 sts. Knit 3 rows in the round. Then dec
one st on the needle with 4 sts to make 9 sts even
across 3 needles, and knit 8 rows. Cast off. Repeat for other sleeve.
Sew in all
loose ends. You can use the original cast-on thread on the neck to make a loop
for hanging.
